ELIZABETH MASON YOGA CHESHIRE
250 hr Certified Yoga Instructor
Ashtanga Vinyasa, Hatha, Pranayama & Meditation.
My teaching encourages a practice that is sustainable and a body that is strong and resilient.
Coming to yoga in 2022, I found joy in the physical expression of yoga in all its forms, without expectation or goal. Through regular practice, I developed a love of the discipline and a deep appreciation for postural alignment. The intelligence of the vinyasa system and its emphasis on breath and efficiency of movement took my body further in flexibility and strength than I had managed as a dancer and gymnast, or through other methods of stretching and strengthening.
Deep into the practice, I discovered the energetic potential of Pranayama (yogic breath control) and its ability to support the nervous system, facilitating rest, rehabilitation and mental focus. Integrating Pranayama into my teaching, I offer students techniques to support their nervous system and energetic needs, while sharing the strengthening capabilities of breath control and its capacity to support asana practice and athletic performance.
I offer breath-centred teaching for a fully embodied, sustainable yoga practice for every season, supporting the development of a practice that responds to the needs of the body in both activity and rest.

ASANA –
‘When the asana is correct, there is lightness, a freedom. Freedom comes when every part of the body is active. Let us be free in whatever posture we are doing. Let us be full in whatever we do.’
B.K.S. Iyengar
Āsana (posture) is the physical practice of yoga that develops a body which is strong, healthy, and free from discomfort, serving as a preparatory stage for the subtler states of yoga, Pranayama (breath control) and the states of meditation, (dharana), meditation (dhyana), and bliss (samadhi).
PRANAYAMA –
‘As the breath stills our mind, our energies are free to unhook from the senses and bend inward’
B.K.S Iyengar
Prāṇa = life force, vital energy, breath
Āyāma = expansion, extension, regulation, control
At its most basic understanding, pranayama is the mindful control of the breath. A powerful gateway to calming the nervous system, focusing the mind, and accessing deeper states of awareness. The regulation of the breath and meditation offer powerful benefits for both mind and body; from immediate calm, to long term resilience:
- Releasing the fight or flight response.
- Illuminating the bandhas, or energetic locks.
- Activating and strengthening the muscles of respiration.
- Strengthening and control of pelvic floor.
- Improving energy and focus.
- Improving athletic performance.
